Throughout the session the painting fed me fresh ideas and options to build on. I could accept what was in front of me or elect to take further risks and chance loosing what is already present in favour of the unknown. Learning to undertake these kinds of risk while painting, has a direct application to other situations beyond painting.
What I create in the character is only paint but through it I begin to imagine new possible meanings in my viewing of the canvas. It is a dialogic viewing, the canvas and character are speaking back to me who painted them, reframing who I might be for having created them. Do I want to own having made this painting? Can I live with it? (Reader 2007)
