The painting becomes a way for me to extend the emotion and enigma of the dream, so that I can experience something like it for longer, and get to know it better. I am intent on learning about the feeling. These feelings are one dimension of painting, but at the same time the painting is derivative. In the process of painting the feelings may change, converted from the atmosphere of the dream, into an atmosphere of the painting. I may recognise some resemblances to my feelings, or I may abandon original feelings, taking instead an interest in a new enigma emerging in the atmosphere that is created in the paint. (Reader 2007)
